I. Love. Music.
I grew up in a musical environment where either singing or performing music (I played both piano & flute) was almost an every day occurrence. I loved fully immersing myself within the melodies, and I am a firm believer that music can impact your psyche.
I’m the type of person who loathes listening to the radio. I hate listening to the same select songs over and over again on loop, with obnoxious deejays talking in my ear. So when it comes to finding new music to listen to, I usually turn to streaming apps/sites like Spotify & Pandora.
And sometimes, I find real gems.
I wish to share some of these wonderful songs and artists that I’ve fallen in love with along the way.
I apologize in advance if any of these songs get stuck in your head…actually, sorry not sorry.
This week, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite cover songs/albums/artists!
(Brace yourselves, there’s a lottttt going on in this post, lol)
I love when artists/bands take a song that was written by another musician and put their own spin on it. It’s just another way to enjoy the songs I love. (And sometimes, the cover is even better than the original.)
My first exposure to cover artists was on YouTube.
Feast your eyes upon one of my favorites: Daniel de Bourg!
I can’t get enough of him.
Another guy I love: Todrick Hall! <3
From his Beyoncé tribute:
to his Taylor Swift covers:
Or his Disney/Pop mashups:
He’s the bee’s knees, y’all.
Subscribe to his channel, and thank me later. Go here to check out all his stuff.
How about some covers done a la Broadway?
These, I can’t get enough of:
You need this channel in you life, so go here to subscribe! (And do they look familiar? It’s Scott and Mitch from Pentatonix!)
Here are some of my non-YouTube faves:
I can’t get enough of this. I love the original, but this gives it a whole new feel.
If you’re not hip on Jasmine Thompson, I’m going to need you to drop everything and check out her music. Even though most of her songs are covers of other pop songs, she’ll captivate you with her melodic voice, and her piano accompaniment. To check out her on Spotify, click here. (Seriously, click it!)
Here are some more faves:
Not every cover is done vocally.
Matter of fact, it can be instrumental. (And this is what I love listening to while working on the blog/writing reviews.)
One of my favorite instrumental/vocal percussionists is Kevin Olusola (whom you may recognize from Pentatonix):
For your viewing/listening pleasure:
For the grand finale, I give you the cream of the crop:
I’ve followed PTX since they were on The Sing-Off years ago. I am a sucker for acapella groups, and Pentatonix is the best of the best. If you ever get a chance to see them in concert, I highly recommend it. (They do an interactive acapella song with the audience! It’s so cool.)
Even though I love EVERYTHING they’ve done so far, here are some of my faves:
Cause hearing it wasn’t enough…WATCH IT:
And cause I can’t help it–here’s the visual!
and here’s another song off their upcoming album:
Oh, and before you go…
Check out this awesome cover/mash-up that Pentatonix did that features and was produced/directed by Todrick Hall (who was featured earlier in this post)!
There you have it.
Do you have any favorite covers/artists/songs?
I’d love to hear about it!
