On Saturday, May 3rd, I (Steph) had the opportunity to attend the D.C. Author Event and interview the 13 authors in a rapid-fire format. (We called it “Speed Dating”, haha). It was an absolute blast getting to hang out with some of my favorite authors, and getting to know each of them a little bit better through during our “dates”.
Starting May 7th, we will be highlighting 1 author each day, and share with you a few moments from their interviews, spotlight some of their books, and give you an opportunity to win 1 of 13 SIGNED books (by the featured authors).
Pretty awesome, right?
Today’s Author Spotlight: Jennifer L. Armentrout (aka J.Lynn)!
Q: Which is the hardest to write, the first or last line of your book?
Jennifer said she feels as though the last line of the book is hardest to write. For her, it’s all about the “epic” ending. (If you’ve read her books, then I’m sure you’d agree with me in thinking her endings are pretty EPIC!) When I asked her if there was a difference in writing the ending of a standalone book as opposed to the ending of a middle-of-the-series book, she replied: “Standalones are hardest. With a series, you can easily just say: ‘I’m going to end this with a cliffhanger!'”
*cough* The ending of Opal…*cough* #NeverForget
Q: What is at the top of your bucket list?
Apparently, JLA doesn’t have a bucket list. So naturally, we created an impromptu one during our interview. :) She was able to think of 2 things: 1.) She wants to travel to Scotland/Ireland. 2.) She wants to eat apple pie. That’s right, EAT. APPLE. PIE. Jennifer L. Armentrout has NEVER eaten apple pie. As a matter of fact, the only kinds of pie she’s ever eaten are Pecan pie, and Pumpkin pie. When I asked her how this was even possible (that she is in America and has never partaken of the Apple Pie), she claims that the pie looks “gross”. HAHAHA. So, priority one: find a non-gross looking piece of pie, and bring it to JLA at the next signing I go to. We’re going to go all out, and even do it à la mode…
Q: Do you have any hidden talents?
Jennifer used to be able to manipulate her voice and talk like Yoda, as well as do Bobby’s voice from Bobby’s World! (I LOVE BOBBY!) She said that since she has bad allergies now, she’s no longer able to do it. (Trust me, I was hoping for a demo…le sigh.)
Another awesome JLA fact: She once saved a person from drowning! According to her, it was a total “Rescue, 911” moment. <–hahaha, I love her.
