New York’s Finest

LADIES AND GENTS! I have an announcement! You know that guy I featured on my blog a few months ago? The really, really hot Irish rugby player who plays the position of ‘hooker’ in the RLI (Rugby League International)? The one with the questionable fashion choices leading me to ask whether he was the lovechild of a leprechaun and a hobbit? The one with the anger management issues and the body of a gladiator and the face of a movie star? Ronan Fitzpatrick? Yeah, that guy.
Well, I have a confession to make…
Annie Catrel, social media expert extraordinaire at Davidson & Croft Media and clandestine celebrity blogger, can make anyone shine in the court of public opinion. She is the Socialmedialite, anonymous creator of New York’s Finest and the internet’s darling. Virtual reality is Annie’s forte, but actual reality? Not so much.
Ronan Fitzpatrick, aka the best hooker the world of rugby has seen in decades, despises the media—social or otherwise. The press has spun a web of lies depicting him as rugby’s wild and reckless bad boy.
Suspended from his team, Ronan has come to Manhattan to escape the drama, lay low, fly under the radar. Only, Ronan isn’t easy to overlook, and he can’t escape the notice of the Socialmedialite…
When Ronan is sent to Davidson & Croft Media to reshape his public image, he never expects to cross paths with shy but beautiful Annie, nor does he expect his fierce attraction to her. He couldn’t be happier when her boss suggests pairing them together.
What lengths will Annie take to keep her virtual identity concealed? And what happens when the hooker discovers who the hermit really is?
The Hooker and the Hermit is a collaboration between authors L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid, is a full length 100k word novel, and is a standalone.
The Hooker and the Hermit was such a fun read! L.H. Cosway is one of my favorite authors and I recently started Penny Reid’s Knitting in the City series (and loved it) so to say I was excited about this release is definitely putting it lightly. Two authors I already love coming together on one book, major score! And, I have to say I definitely wasn’t disappointed! This had me smiling from beginning to end.
Ronan Fitzgerald is the Irish bad boy of rugby. After a few impulsive decisions, he’s been suspended from the team and is laying low in NYC. He hates the spotlight that playing a professional sport has put on him and wants nothing to do with improving his image, publicity, social media or the like. Until he meets Annie.
If I could clean up my rep while getting into Annie’s curvaceous knickers, then I’d be one happy, sexually sated camper.
I wanted to be so fucking unprofessional with her, it wasn’t funny.
Annie is the best at what she does. She works for a media company and specializes in transforming the reputations of famous people. She’s highly intelligent, but has a hard time talking to or being around other people. It goes beyond just being shy or awkward, she chooses to be invisible and is afraid of a lot of things. Since she has a hard time finding her voice in person, she uses her famous online blogging persona as The Socialmedialite to express her opinions openly.
“That’s right, I’m a reclusive pervert, and I make no apologies for it. And, giving the matter some thought, a reclusive pervert is much preferable to an extroverted pervert.”
Annie and Ronan have a really intriguing chemistry. Annie is of course very guarded and quiet while Ronan is outspoken and a shameless flirt. It was so much fun to watch Ronan try to rile Annie up as he pursues her pretty aggressively.

I’m using my hand
But I’m thinking of you.
P.S. Just to clarify, I’m using my hand to write this note…get your mind out of the gutter.”
Even though Ronan’s immediate intention is to get in Annie’sknickers, he quickly realizes that she’s a really genuine person and deep feelings begin to form on both sides. Little things happen between them here and there, but the sexual tension continues to build for a long time and it’s spectacular! The pacing of everything was really great and I felt like, given their circumstances, it was as realistic as it could’ve been.
”This is happening. You and I are happening, and this is real.”
“I feel like I could lose myself and find myself in you, Annie.” I murmured close to her ear.
She swallowed. “Don’t say things like that.”
“I can’t help it. Believe me, I’ve tried. You make me feel everything.”
And these characters! I just love them. Ronan is the perfect mixture of sexy, dirty talking protective alpha while also being sweet. He’s so thoughtful when it comes to Annie and being incredibly understanding of her quirks and triggers, but his POV still felt realistic for a guy. I just can’t get enough of LH’s heroes! He had me swooning like mad, plus he’s freaking hilarious! I also really liked Annie, but I feel like I didn’t love her until I started seeing her more through Ronan’s eyes. Shy/innocent heroines can grate on my nerves at times, but the way Annie is written is very endearing and her background really provided another dimension. She’s so witty and genuine and I ended up having a huge soft spot for her and how much she grew throughout the book. Even though I got frustrated at times, everything felt true to the characters and I loved their interactions so much!
She wanted to give this a go? I wanted to high-five the fuck out of myself, then do a victory dance. But I didn’t, because, you know, manly.
This book was really refreshing. It was sexy at times, made me laugh a lot, and had just the right amount of angst and feels. I thought the use of social media and the blog was really clever and unique. It made the story even more interesting and I loved the suspense aspect regarding Annie’s secret identity. I am so happy with this collaboration and I can’t wait for more work by both authors, together and individually.
