But really, how was this freshly-minted Boston transplant and newbie college freshman supposed to know that she would end up living with the family of an old friend of her mother's? This was all supposed to be temporary. Julie wasn't supposed to be important to the Watkins family, or to fall in love with one of the brothers. Especially the one she's never quite met. But what does that really matter? Finn gets her, like no one ever has before. They have connection. But here's the thing about love, in all its twisty, bumpy permutations—it always throws you a few curves. And no one ever escapes unscathed.New York Times best-selling author Jessica Park mines the territory of love's growing pains with wit, sharp insights, and a discernible heat and heartbeat. Her previous novels include Relatively Famous, and she authored the e-shorts What the Kid Says (Parts 1 and 2) and Facebooking Rick Springfield.Visit her on the web at www.jessicapark.me The author of Flat-Out Love has donated this book to the Worldreader program
Hmm, how do I describe this book in 3 words or less? ABSOLUTE EMOTIONAL WARFARE. Sweet baby Jeebus, this book…THIS BOOK! I’m still trying to get my frayed and fragile emotions in order. For the love of all that is sane and reasonable in this world, how did I survive this book? I’ve never been through so many intense emotions (happiness, hope, LOVE…INSANITY! MADNESS! EMOTIONAL DISASTER!) in one sitting before. To say I loved this book, would be putting it lightly. To quote the book: “That’s what love does to you: Gut-wrenching, over-powering, CRUSHING, fulfilling, complex, bring-you-to-your-knees, LOVE.” <—That completely describes what came with my love for this book. This was an experience I was absolutely unprepared for. Some hashtags I used via twitter whilst reading this: #FlatOutEmotional, #FlatOutMindF*ck, #FlatOutSobbing, #FlatOutShootMeInTheFace, and #FlatOutBrilliant. *deep breaths*
This book went from leading me down a path to greener fields filled with daisies, songbirds, sunshine, and happiness, to then take a wrong turn through a minefield of heartache, betrayal, injustice, and utter disaster. This book was captivating, charming, enchanting, gratifying, intriguing, gripping, interesting, fascinating, entertaining, and delightful. Ok, I totally used the thesaurus to just find a bunch of words that pretty much just mean the same thing, but lets be honest, there aren’t enough words to truly incapsulate the true essence of this story. The best thing I can say is that everyone should experience this book at least once. This was flat out amazing, flat out stunning, flat out spectacular, and I FLAT OUT LOVED IT! (Emotional breakdown and all!)
I’m so happy I’ll be getting to meet Jessica Park at the Boston Authors Event in March 2013, because I’ll be submitting my pharmacy receipts for all of the Prozac, Xanax, chocolate, and tissues that I had to go through in order to finish this book!
