…What’s the worst that could happen?
It’s been nine months since Kaitlyn Parker has seen or heard from Martin Sandeke—nine months and five stages of matter. She’s lived through the worst of first-love heartbreak, and is most certainly stronger (and less likely to hide in science cabinets) than ever before.
But now Martin is back. And he wants to be friends. But he’s sending mixed signals to the Bunsen burner in Kaitlyn’s pants.
Will Martin re-capture Kaitlyn’s heart? Can Kaitlyn and Martin ever be just friends? Or, despite an abundance of chemistry, are some bonds just too unstable to endure?
This is part three of Elements of Chemistry and the conclusion to Kaitlyn and Martin’s love story. I absolutely adore these characters and am so sad to say goodbye, I feel like I could read about these two forever.
At the end of Heat we are left with a major cliffhanger, Kaitlyn and Martin have broken up and they are both devastated. Capture picks up nine months later and they have not seen or spoke to each other since. So much has changed for both characters in this installment and I loved seeing how much they have both grown as individuals thanks to each other’s influence. Kaitlyn has decided to follow to passion for music and is supporting herself by being in a band. She’s also trying new things and not hiding in closets (as much) anymore. Martin has really made a name for himself business-wise, has stopped letting his need for revenge with his father rule his life, and is trying to be nicer.
I really loved how this one was set up. I didn’t read the synopsis going in and I had no idea how things would play out. Long story short, Kaitlyn and Martin decide to try being friends. Somehow Kaitlyn ends up needing a place to stay in NYC and of course Martin is there for her. I love how this kind of mirrored the first part, Attraction, with them staying together for a week and forcing their relationship into new territory both times but in different ways. My biggest qualm was Kaitlyn. I hate saying that because I really do love her characters, but she was so dense at times in this. I know she’s not the most socially savvy person, but she is a smart person and sometimes didn’t come off that way, which was unfortunate.
This is very much a second chance love story and a majority of the time is spent with them really just as friends which I admit was frustrating at times, but I also kind of loved the torture of it. I am the BIGGEST fan of unresolved sexual tension and this book had it in spades. I really had this huge sense of anticipation and kept thinking, “Okay, is this the moment? Is it gonna happen now?” and although that could drive a lot of people nuts, I loved it. Martin is absolute perfection in this book and had me swooning all over the place.
“I don’t want a beautiful week with you. I want a beautiful lifetime.”
Overall, this serial is sensational. I am a huge lover of audiobooks and I’m already desperately hoping this will be on audio at some point so I can listen and re-listen because it’s become an instant favorite. Penny Reid created such a smart, fun, sexy story with such witty, awesome characters and I hung on every word of it. I highly recommend this series.
