What’s the worst that could happen?
Kaitlyn Parker has no problem being the invisible girl, which is why she finds herself hiding in various cabinets and closets all over her college campus. Despite her best efforts, she can’t escape the notice of Martin Sandeke—bad boy, jerkface bully, and the universe’s hottest, wealthiest, and most unobtainable bachelor—who also happens to be Kaitlyn’s chemistry lab partner.
Kaitlyn might be the only girl who isn’t interested in exploiting his stunning rower’s build, chiseled features, and family's billionaire fortune. Kaitlyn wants Martin for his brain, specifically to tabulate findings of trace elements in surface water.
When Kaitlyn saves Martin from a nefarious plot, Martin uses the opportunity to push Kaitlyn out of her comfort zone: spring break, one week, house parties, bathing suits, and suntan lotion. Can she overcome her aversion to being noticed? Will he be able grow beyond his self-centered nature? Or, despite their obvious chemistry, will Martin be the one to drive Kaitlyn into the science cabinet of obscurity for good?
If I could describe this book/series in one word, it would definitely be ADDICTING! It’s been awhile since I picked up a book on a whim and just couldn’t put it down. That is exactly what happened here. I devoured this! And as soon as I was finished, I started the next installment and wanted to reread both right away. You have got to pick up this series!
The synopsis really gives you a great idea of what to expect plot-wise. Kaitlyn and Martin are lab partners, but could not be more different. Martin is a rich bad boy, kind of a jerk, bossy and used to getting what he wants. On the other hand Kaitlyn is nice, on the shy side, smart and quirky. Martin forcibly and seemingly out of nowhere shows an intense interest in Kaitlyn and despite her resistance convinces her (and her best friend) to go away with him and his rowing team (YUM!) for spring break.
I loved this set up! Going on a trip together for a week really moved things along quickly and it allowed for lots of together time. And Martin and Kaitlyn together is a true thing of beauty, let me tell you. Their dynamic is so fun! They have crazy chemistry, but it’s not just a sexual tension thing (which is totally there too). They can banter like nobody’s business and completely keep each other on their toes. I had such a huge smile on my face while reading this and laughed like crazy.
“Martin, I can’t-“
“I do.” He kissed me again and shifted his weigh more completely against me.
I’m pretty much in love with these characters too. Kaitlyn is a phenomenal heroine, something I’ve come to expect from Penny’s girls. She’s so smart and witty, has a quirky/nerdy side that is so endearing and she totally owns it. She extremely honest and doesn’t try to be anything she isn’t or hide what she likes. She is who she is and I absolutely love her.
“Do you always talk like that?”
“Like what? Like awesome?”
“Yeah, like awesome.”
And Martin. Oh, he is a major jerkface sometimes. Why do I like the jerks? I think I just love how much he likes Kaitlyn. He’s kind of out of his depth with her and I like seeing him mess up and not be perfect.
I’ve already read the next part of this serial, Heat and it’s really clear that this series is a complete win for me. Fantastic writing, dialogue, characters, gave me that feeling… it really has everything. I whole-heartedly recommend this book and series. You will not be disappointed!
*And, yes, this DOES end on a cliffhanger, but it’s very quickly resolved and this novella includes an excerpt of the next book, so no worries!
P.S. Steph also loved this book, you can check out her early bird review HERE! <3
